Mothers' Union Notes - December 2018

Our visit to Burnley Mechanics was, as ever, a real pleasure. Burnley Light Opera Society is home to a group of very talented people and we thoroughly enjoyed their production of “Sweet Charity”. I’m not sure what the show will be next year but as soon as I know I’ll let you know so that we can decide how many wish to attend. Earlier in November, Beverley and I went to York for the Provincial Service at the Minster. This takes place every three years in one of the cathedrals in the York Province and is a very moving and inspiring service bringing together members from the whole of the York Province. Banners from each Diocese are presented with the Diocesan presidents following their individual banners, truly as sight to behold, with the Provincial Banner also being presented. This year a new Provincial Banner was dedicated by Archbishop Sentamu who also presided and preached at the service. A new banner was felt necessary due to changes in the Dioceses in the York Province with the old one no longer reflecting them.It is a beautiful piece of embroidery based on the Rose Window at the Minster. The whole experience was joyous but perhaps the less said about Northern Rail’s contribution to our journey the better! St. Stephen’s will be hosting another Ladies’ Prayer Breakfast in December. Julie and I went to the first one and can thoroughly recommend a lovely start to a Saturday morning. Do support St. Stephen’s if you can. We will be enjoying our Christmas Meal on Wednesday, Decmber 5th and then will meet again for our AGM on January 15th. If you have anything that you would like to come to the AGM will you please let a committee member know before the meeting. At this time of year we both reflect and look forward. When I reflect on the year that is coming to an end I am deeply grateful for the help and support that you give to Mothers’ Union and to me. Looking forward I hope for continued suport and perhaps some growth in this wonderful organisation we belong to. I wish you, and those you care for, a Happy and Blessed Christmas Pam Branch Leader
